Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail is a high security facility which is operated by the jurisdictions of the Counties of James City and York and the Cities of Williamsburg and Poquason, under the authority of the State of Virginia. The Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail was opened in 1997 and holds a maximum capacity of 612 male and female inmates, state inmates of all custody levels who are probation violators, awaiting trial, sentencing, or transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections system or the Federal Bureau of Prisons system.
